In 2022, VALORANT in Portugal is taking the next step! Now an official VRC (Valorant Regional Circuit), the VALORANT Elite Circuit is evolving into the VALORANT Elite Championship (VCE), transforming from an open circuit to a league format.
As a competitive circuit, the VCE played a pivotal role in developing VALORANT, attracting players from various other game titles, particularly FPS games such as CSGO and Overwatch. But with the game still in its infancy, there's much to do.
This season, the VCE will become an eight-team league with two splits. The league format will feature the classic double round-robin best-of-one games, with the top four teams qualifying for single-elimination playoffs. Additionally, two national team open cups with a double-elimination format are being introduced to provide all teams with an opportunity to showcase their abilities at a live event.
The rulebook for the VCE will expand to accommodate the league format. However, there will be a soft approach to the new regulations, allowing for a smooth transition from the open circuit model to the current system, and allowing time for new players and teams to adjust to the new reality. This means that teams won't need to be registered organizations or hold contracts with their players for this edition of the VCE, but these rules may be required in the future.
Moreover, the VCE will now receive better coverage, with all matches in the league stage being broadcasted as expected of a league format, and the finals for the open cups.
Through these measures, we aim to help professionalize VALORANT and anticipate seeing its impact on the community and the growth of national players.
The VALORANT Elite Championship kicks off on May 10, and you can follow all the action on Advnce SIC's Twitch channels. Stay tuned for more!
